How to help
WAYS YOU CAN HELP
Hygiene packs for times of disaster
Every year and season an informal settlement in Cape Town experiences a fire or flood. The impact is devastating leaving people displaced from their homes. Various challenges and trade offs must be made by them: forfeiting work to figure out shelter for themselves and families, placing their children in shelter possibly apart from them, sleeping outside without food and so on. Its in times like these you may realise how valuable your donation of clothing or household item can be. Lerato's Hope is part of a RESPOND Coalition - a network of churches committed to responding to these types of disasters. A very helpful immediate response is a care pack containing basic hygiene items for one family. Come along to our church's service on 11 June 2023 to hear more.
Join Reading For Hope 2025
Do you have a heart for children and education? Do you want to see children improve in their literacy abilities? Reading for Hope aims to be a part of this change through the small act of reading with a child consistently. If you would like to join us, please indicate your interest in volunteering with us by signing up.
You would be signing up to read with a two children, once a week, for 30 minute slots at a time (1 hour total). This program's aim is to help improve the reading ability of children at Silverlea Primary and E.A. Janari Primary as identified by the teachers. We can organise carpool transport once we have all the names in. We will have a training / orientation day before the first session along with police clearance (costs covered by Reading for Hope).

Dignity/Dare Day in Thabo Mbeki
Saturday, 27 November 2021
Meet our partners in Thabo Mbeki - a small group of community members and leaders who have done various initiatives in the past - have now started an NPO team called Umzila Omhle ('beautiful legacy') and they hosted a Dignity and Dare day for 60 youth in their community on Saturday, 27 Nov. In the end, 80 attended! This program was facilitated by The Dignity Campaign and it was a space for youth to talk about identity, belonging and purpose. Members of our church community also joined the day to meet them and participate in the program. Thabo Mbeki is built on an informal settlement 20min drive from Pinelands, in the greater Philippi East area.
