Celebrate Urban Ministry🤝

What is 'urban ministry'?

A broad term to capture the work of people who are leaders or catalysts in their community (but not necessarily "full time ministers/pastors") who care for and influence their community in some way. Community is not limited to people living in a geographical area, it could be a group of people who are held together by a commonly shared activity, concern, or passion.

These folks are trying to join God in His mission of bringing God’s kingdom here on earth, are probably asking the question "what is God doing in my neighbourhood or city?" and not just asking "what is God doing in my church?" They consider "action" or "service" a sacrament or act of worship . They infuse their service/work with spirituality, over infusing their spirituality with service. These are people who are gifted at embodying the gospel practically, possibly more than preaching the gospel in words.

You are invited

If you are curious to meet such people and hear stories along these lines then come along to this celebration. This event is part of the greater series of Pinelands Baptist celebrating 75 years, and will be hosted by two ministries of this church - Lerato's Hope and Mercy & Justice.

Lynda and Colin

Volunteers with the Victim Support Team for Pinelands Police Station.

We are part of a team who are available to give emotional skills to those who have gone through trauma.

We want to offer emotional support  to people in their time of need. Trauma can interrupt life on multiple levels and many feelings arise. We want to help normalize these feelings. We want to guide and offer a framework in the journey of healing

Umzila Omhle (NPO)

A start up non-profit in Thabo Mbeki informal settlement overseen by community members.

Our vision for Thabo Mbeki is to see young people and women having sustainable livelihoods, access to basic education and health care. Seeing young people out of the streets, by not getting involved in substance abuse.

We want to empower the young and old in making a change in their community; to strengthen the community and economic development for our people. We want to promote dignity, social and economic inclusion.
