Reading For Hope 2022

We are so excited to announce that Reading for Hope (led by Sharon and Wendy) will start up again next year! Despite formal permission from the schools, this of course will depend on gov movements concerning COVID-19 regulations.

In the meantime: Do you have a heart for children and education? Do you want to see children improve in their literacy abilities? Reading for Hope aims to be a part of this change through the small act of reading with a child consistently. If you would like to join us, please indicate your interest in volunteering with us by signing up by 19 Jan 2022

You would be signing up to read with a child or two children, once a week, for 30 minute slots at a time. This program's aim is to help improve the reading ability of children at Silverlea Primary and E.A. Janari Primary as identified by the teachers. We can organise carpool transport once we have all the names in. We will have a training / orientation day before the first session along with police clearance (costs covered by Reading for Hope).

Dignity/Dare Day in Thabo Mbeki

27 November 10am to 1.45pm

Meet our partners in Thabo Mbeki - a small group of community members and leaders who have done various initiatives in the past - have now started an NPO team called Umzila Omhle ('beautiful legacy') and they will be hosting a Dignity and Dare day for 60 youth in their community on Saturday, 27 Nov. This program is facilitated by The Dignity Campaign and it's a space for youth to talk about identity, belonging and purpose. We invite you to choose 1 of 2 options: come along as one participant in the discussion groups to listen and learn (we particularly encourage PBC youth for this one), or help the community kitchen serve lunch or both!

08/05 We gathered to pray...

On 8 May 2021, Mercy & Justice and Lerato's Hope co-hosted an event called 'Praying Hope: Education' where Mercy & Justice led us through structured and creative ways of praying on the theme of education. We had our teachers and Reading for Hope represented. Read more here.

We have a long standing partnership with the local leadership of Thabo Mbeki. The community always identifies specific families in need and send us a register we base our purchases on the number per grade /phase of kids in need. We usually aim to help at least 110 kids.

We are so grateful to the local Pinelands schools that have contributed stationery thus far - but still need sponsorship of a more packs (each valued at R120) or in kind donations of the following essentials in brand new condition or gently used (scissors)

quality HB pencils, ballpoint pens black or blue, exam pads, erasers, scissors, glue sticks and color pencils.

You can email us to arrange drop off at our church office
